Halloween in Romantic Country Fall 2011

Romantic Country - Fall 2011

The Fall 2011 issue of Romantic Country features a piece on "charming and spooky Halloween decor." On page 46 and 47 of the article, there's a table setting and decor--all mostly in white and rustic and 2 skeletons are sitting at the white table which has white pumpkins on it--it's a fun look. The whole piece is more about subtle decor mixed with fall flowers and pumpkins. And adding masks to portraits or other similar ghostly features is something to help transform paintings in a room rather than removing them. Very sedate but elegant.

Country Sampler September 2011 Issue

The first fall magazine to hit the stands that I've found is the September issue of Country Sampler. It was a little disappointing as far as Halloween goes--not much in there. More fall than anything--and only 1 vintage item that I could find featured on page 8. It's an old-time cracker featured in the Antiques Q' and A' section that someone put either a scrap item or gummed seal onto of a cat. Value is given by Claire Lavin who wrote 2 collecting guides, Time for Halloween Decorations and also Timeless Halloween Collectibles about the Beistle decorations from 1920-1949. We now have the 2011 line of Martha Stewart Halloween available for pre-order in the Vintage Halloween Store--these will ship late July once we receive them in stock! We have 35 new items from the line and some classic favorites still being produced--plus clearance on the 2010 items!

I'm enjoying this year's sampling of Classic Halloween and also the Elegant Witch theme. Last year's theme was vampire, but this year's elegant witch theme can go with a lot of different Halloween styles and is very mix and match. So it's very flexible for your parties. Just added more of the Johanna Parker charms from Primitives By Kathy to the Vintage Halloween Store for pre-order. These should be coming in in mid-August! They are so cute! These are all 1.25" for the square ones and 1" x 1.63" for the rectangular charms.

Country Living - Black Cat Fortune Game

For those of you interested in fortune telling games and ephemera related to fortunes, the June 2011 issue of Country Living has some interesting stuff in the Collectibles section including The Black Cat Fortune Telling Game pictured, shown here:

This is a quaint game--sometimes associated with Halloween by some collectors, others consider it more loosely related.

Vintage Halloween Noisemakers at eBay #13

Check out this neat bell noisemaker that sold today for $100.60. It's really neat and I like the graphics especially of the flying witch over the silhouetted skyline with the crescent moon. This is one of those noisemakers that's a bit more pricey to collect and not as common as some of the other ones you frequently spot at eBay in the $20.00 to $40.00 range.
