Remembering Martha By Mail - Martha Stewart Living Part 5

A final look back at the Martha Stewart Living Martha By Mail Catalogs for Halloween - this is the 2004 catalog - covers shown for fall and Halloween. Plus some neat things they carried that year including the festive window silhouettes! Wishing this could be done again, they always had such great things!

October 2016 issue of Martha Stewart Living

After a noticeable decline in Halloween content and covers in the last few years of October issues, the October 2016 issue of Martha Stewart Living has completely underwhelmed me - she used to be known as the "Queen of Halloween" after all. The only Halloween article inside is the pumpkin carving/decorating one--some clever styling including the snakes below, but with the exception of a few items in the "Good Things" section, that's it. There was no usual "spooktacular" theme article - unless it was the pumpkin piece. Disappointed.....

Remembering Martha By Mail - Martha Stewart Living Part 4

Another fun look back at the Martha Stewart Living Martha By Mail Catalogs - this one from 2003. In this one I was fascinated by the elegant mummies you could order. I missed out on ordering those but these could be recreated. I also liked the parade style lanterns evocative of Vintage Halloween parade lanterns. I missed out on the tree too below - but we do sell the festive Jack O' Lantern fans at the Vintage Halloween Store - order here.

October 2015 Martha Stewart Living Magazine

The October 2015 issue of Martha Stewart Living features some cute and clever ideas but is quite light on Halloween content compared to past issues. The cover is more Fall than Halloween for instance, a pattern of recent years. I became excited when I turned on the page with the second image below only to see it was an ad for Pier One ;-)

2015 Martha Stewart Halloween Special Issue

There's a Martha Stewart special Halloween issue out - saw this at Target from Meredith which now publishes MSL. It's from what I can tell, a rehash of their favorite things from over the years, but it's nicely laid out.

Martha Stewart Living October 2014 Magazine

The always anticipated Martha Stewart Living October issue is now on stands and features a spooky back cover and flipped side entry of Halloween items -- usually there's a special Halloween issue on stands--not so this year. Here's some highlights from the issue--I especially like the Sleepy Hollow pumpkin carving.

Meringue Bones - Sweet & Sinister!

What happens when you go to make Key Lime pie and only need the egg yolks? You can make meringue cookies with the discarded egg whites! Here's the Martha Stewart Meringue Bones recipe - so easy as you can see from the 2 steps below--but I won't show you how mine came out ;-) It might be too "horrifyingly spooky" - I'll show you what they're supposed to look like. Note to self: don't substitute a Ziploc bag for a pastry bag and then cut the tip too big ;) I'll show off my improved bones at my annual Halloween party this year!
