Countdown to Halloween - Oct. 23rd: Vintage Halloween Displays

I love seeing vintage Halloween displays--especially at Halloween, but all year round there are collectors who keep up their displays or even relegate a whole room in the house to their collections. Click on each of these photos for a larger image.

A collector shared these photos of their display with us and I wanted to share with you all.

These games can be purchased fairly inexpensively at eBay compared to some of the other vintage Halloween collectibles if you're looking to start out with something that's not going to break your bank.

The lanterns are so bright and festive, shown in this photo.

And a Halloween feather tree is a great addition for all the Halloween ornaments in your collections.

If you're wondering where to find such great vintage items, check out eBay but also try a newer site, Bonanza! Your local antique malls are a great source too for vintage Halloween. If you're lucky enough to live near a holiday show like the one in Ohio every year, those are always fun haunts.

Countdown to Halloween - Oct. 22nd: Vintage Tally Cards #2

I really like the look of the vintage Tally cards. Here are some more festive examples of these.

I especially like the middle photo set and the lanterns pictured on the cat tally.

Love the Deco Silhouettes here...

Countdown to Halloween - Oct. 19th: Vintage Tally Cards

Vintage Tally cards are so festive--nice and colorful and spooktacular imagery! Some of the really nice ones can sell for 30.00 and on up. Others you can get around 5.00 to 20.00. Some companies that made these include Gibson and Buzza--the Buzza ones are especially clever and a lot of them have that great Art Deco styling.

I really like this witch's cauldron bubbling over to the meowing/hissing cat.

Spooked by a bat?

Countdown to Halloween - Oct. 4th: Vintage Halloween Party

The October issue of Create and Decorate features a "Vintage Halloween Party" article that showcases some neat vintage collectibles from noisemakers to games to lanterns and party favors. It also has a craft on making your own papier-mache pumpkin and cat.

There's a neat "Ghoulfriends Shadow Box" craft idea too featuring vintage Halloween postcard imagery. It's clever!

Countdown to Halloween - Oct. 2nd: Vintage Halloween Noisemakers at eBay #8

Looking for vintage decorations to liven up your Halloween parties? Noisemakers are a great way to add some vintage flair and a little "music." :)

Here are a few noisemakers seen recently at eBay - they're pretty inexpensive to collect for the most part, can still be handled to some degree depending on the style and condition, and really pop in displays as they're very bright and colorful and full of great Halloween imagery.

Spooky Nancy Drew Halloween Party Theme

Weeks of planning and designing=one fun Nancy Drew Halloween party! This year I had a Nancy Drew Halloween party. The theme was the 21st Nancy Drew book, The Secret in the Old Attic. I tried to recreate the attic on the front porch complete with items mentioned from the book: trunk, wardrobe with skeleton, cobwebs, spiders, old bottles, sheet music, an old table, hat boxes, a Currier & Ives print and so forth. The Nancy Drew silhouette is featured prominently in the front window.

Inside in the dining room, we had tables set up with vintage Halloween party collectibles and lots of goodies. Take a moment to weed through all the photos from our party from the set up of the porch to the end result and the party festivities plus my Old Attic goodies I gave out the next evening on Halloween to all the trick or treaters!

HALLOWEEN NIGHT TREATS:

I made nearly 200 goody bags for the kids featuring Nancy Drew & the Hardy Boys stickers - And ran out of them! Normally we have around 130 to 150 kids, this year over 200! WOW! Or as Nancy's friend George would say, HYPERS!

Little Kids got candy and play-doh plus a bookmark for the girls!

Older kids got candy, spiders, stretchy skeletons, googly eye rings,
and girls got bookmarks. Hardy Boys Skull Mountain sticker pictured above

Inexpensive Jack O' Lantern buckets (great suggestion from Ronda!) lit up with battery operated tea-lights make the perfect lanterns to line your walkway!

Just before dark, the scene becomes more spooky!

This Halloween was lots of fun and using the Old Attic theme was easy to do. The kids squealed and were delighted with the theme and the goody bags. When I was a kid, I loved getting the treat sacks, so I like to do that for the kids at Halloween!
