Countdown to Halloween - Oct. 5 - 2013 Halloween at Walgreens

Here's a sampling of some neat stuff I saw at Walgreens - the cameo pumpkin above also came with an owl silhouette. The crow below i purchased and added it to a table of other crows and it blended in nicely. There was quite a bit of Nightmare Before Christmas items too.

Keen Halloween - Halloween Show

This past weekend we were at Keen Halloween in Phoenix, AZ - a Halloween show in it's second year with a retro style. I thought I'd share pictures of my booth. It was my first show, so I've realized, 2 booths is necessary to really display things better. I liked how my booth turned out though.I give big thanks to Ronda at Old Fashion Halloween for the suggestion of the black wire cube shelves from Target for displaying, they came in handy!

Countdown to Halloween - Oct. 4 - 2013 Halloween at Target #1

27 Days to Go!

Here's some goodies I took pics of while in Target! I was impressed with Target this year, found lots of things that were fun and since my Halloween theme this year involves "poison," they had quite a few "poison" things that would work including some tumbler glasses I picked up to go with my green "poison" punch.

The animated wolf skull below was cool. The costume prop with the red devilish skeleton was creepy for sure, but something I hadn't seen before--this could be re-purposed for a prop instead of being used as a costume. Even without the horns, just painting a skeleton red would be pretty different and fun for Halloween. The design on the storage containers I liked and I got an orange and black one to use in displays at my table at a Halloween show to put Beistle paper decorations in.

Monster Cereal Snack - Fruit Brute Rice Krispie Treats

Remember Fruit Brute? General Mills is bringing back this gem along with it's other monster cereals--for a limited time and you can get retro boxes at Target, though I haven't seen any yet at my Target store. I opted to pick up the more modern box of Fruit Brute to make some Rice Krispie treats! And they're very yummy!

Here's the modern box and what the cherry flavored cereal looks like:

 

When making these, I used the standard recipe which involves 3 TBSP of butter, 4 cups mini marshmallows, and 6 cups of cereal. I usually do around 5 TBSP of butter, but I like it moister and I also add about 5 cups of the marshmallows. I also add a little bit of vanilla to the melted marshmallow/butter mixture--that's my secret ingredient that makes them taste even more delicious. I used 3 cups of the Rice Krispies and then 3 cups of the Fruit Brute and added those to the butter and marshmallows once they were melted.

The "I'm a Dumbskull" stunt game recently sold at eBay for  $152.37. This game was made by Beistle. Some of the stunts on back included:

Celebrate Halloween 2013 Issue

Phyllis Hoffman's Celebrate Halloween 2013 issue is out on the stands now--it features lots of recipes and some party ideas too including a Dia de Los Muertos party and a Mad Scientist party. I think the Mad Scientist party was one my favs but I also liked the idea of spray painting vases black--they have a nice aged look to them.  The green poison candy is fun too served in the test tubes.
