Country Living 2013 Halloween

I always anticipate the October issue of Country Living, but the last couple of years haven't been my favorite as to Halloween or vintage Halloween content. I didn't see one vintage item in this issue. Not that there has to be, but for a while over the last decade there was quite a vintage influence be it vintage style pieces and articles or actual vintage pieces being used as props, inspiration, or featured in collecting and how much is it worth type sections. This issue's collecting section is about scientific things like microscopes. Granted, my Nancy Drew collection was featured in the 2011 issue of Country Living in the collecting section, but I think a mystery theme lends itself to Halloween and many of Nancy Drew's classic mysteries involved haunted houses and ghosts. And they did feature the corner of the Nancy Drew Mystery Game which has a witch silhouette by the bridge! 

However, it seems there's been a trend for the last several years to get away from the vintage--not just in Country Living but also in other magazines, so I certainly miss that. Vintage anything is pretty in right now, so the lack of vintage Halloween somewhat puzzles me. Sound off in the comments about this trend and what you'd like to see in future issues - not just for Country Living but fall magazines in general.

I liked the pumpkin diorama--something that's becoming trendy in pumpkin decoration and the spider web cake on the cover is my favorite thing from the issue--love how that turned out.

Sandra Lee 2013 Halloween

The September/October issue of Sandra Lee features quite a bit of fall and Halloween theme articles and recipes. Here are a few pics I took while checking out the issue - the sparkler on the barn dance birthday cake was neat. The Ombre chocolate cake below is nicely done. The chevron pattern on the pumpkin is a popular theme this year!

Collecting Vintage Halloween - German Crow Diecut

Vintage Halloween German diecuts like this crow are a neat find, but German diecuts are always a neat find due to the great quality and embossing. This crow diecut recently sold at eBay for $253.00.

Woman's World 2013 Halloween Special Issue

I picked up the Celebrate with Woman's World Halloween issue this week. I'm not remembering if they'd put out a special issue before, but found this one when looking for the Woman's Day Halloween special issue--never found it. Found out later they are no longer publishing a special Halloween issue. This Woman's World Halloween issue was fun--enjoyed some of the ideas including these Halloween treat sacks below--the stickers featured on them, you can purchase at The Vintage Halloween Store - we have a set with some of these in it which I've pictured below. Other great ideas including glittered pumpkins and the neat treat cone.

Halloween 2013 at World Market #1

2013 Halloween at Wal-Mart #1

I spotted these Halloween goodies at Wal-Mart as they started putting out their Halloween and fall. Clever slogans on mugs and wine glasses below as well as decor with owls. They also have various sizes of skeletons for those looking to do a skeleton set up.

Halloween Antiquing & Vintage Halloween Collectibles

There's nothing more exciting than spotting some Vintage Halloween when antiquing! I acquired the above postcards on a trip last fall at a used bookstore of all places after turning up empty at several antique malls earlier in the day. 2013 Halloween at T.J. Maxx

 

Here are some items I found at T.J. Maxx! The Tombstone was quite tall and a bit heavy and the neat cat light up is a Johanna Parker design from Primitives by Kathy. My store had 4 of these.

2013 Halloween at Oriental Traders

Oriental Traders has some neat things this year--and some nicely designed party sets. Two things that caught my eye were the candy buckets above featuring owls, bats, and ravens and this game of "Jacks" featuring a skull ball and bone jacks!
