One of my favorite stories set around Halloween at the climax of the tale is Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. From the autumn setting, to the spooky adventure involving bumbling Ichabod Crane and the mysterious headless horseman which leads to Crane's disappearance, it's a classic tale.
It's been told in different ways, retold for children, and been the subject of TV movies and big screen adaptations like the one staring Johnny Depp.
And it's even appeared as the theme of one episode of Scooby Doo:

I loved making the Tootsie Roll Pop Ghost Suckers at Halloween each year! So nostalgic and I still make them from time to time--will be doing so this year. This is a great craft for kids too and so easy to do. Here's a Tootsie Ghost Pop 101 How To.
You can use tissue paper, crepe paper, cloth, actual Kleenex tissues and whatever else you have handy. Other ways to mix it up are to use orange paper to make Jack O' Lantern pops, green paper to make witch pops, and black paper to make cat or bat pops. Add embellishments like ribbon, ears, eyes, and even hats, capes, and outfits.
Did you think when you were growing up that if you found a Tootsie Roll Pop wrapper with the Indian shooting a star you got a free bag. Turns out it's an "urban legend." If you mail them into Tootsie Pops, you'll get this letter in return with a clever story.

The October issue of Create and Decorate features a "Vintage Halloween Party" article that showcases some neat vintage collectibles from noisemakers to games to lanterns and party favors. It also has a craft on making your own papier-mache pumpkin and cat.

Here are a few noisemakers seen recently at eBay - they're pretty inexpensive to collect for the most part, can still be handled to some degree depending on the style and condition, and really pop in displays as they're very bright and colorful and full of great Halloween imagery.

The October 2010 issue of Martha Stewart Living is out and features 2 covers--the one pictured above is on stands, another with a more autumnal than Halloween look was mailed to subscribers. I really like the Halloween cover with the cute little jack o' lanterns.
Selling for just over 900.00 today at eBay is such a cute little tea set! Very collectible and very pricey. This set for sale included just the one teacup and saucer. I'd love to own this set.
