Every Day with Rachael Ray October 2014 Magazine

The October issue of Rachael Ray features a couple of neat things and some good recipes for fall. The Trick-or-Treat time line shows a vintage Dennison image from a Bogie Book but says it was begun in 1912 - but it actually dates as early as 1909--you can see it featured in Mark B. Ledenbach's Guide - that 1909 issue is rare. Spray painting the orange buckets black is a great idea--looks neat in the feature.

2014 Halloween at World Market #2

A few more items at World Market - the bag of chocolates above makes an appearance each year and I look forward to it--the colorful designs make for neat candy favors. I love the dinosaur skeleton below and the skull container - they went home with me!

Matthew Mead's Frightfully Fun Halloween

By far one of the best Halloween magazines out this year is Matthew Mead's Frightfully Fun Halloween out on stands now. It's got some very clever and inventive ideas and lots of inspiration that has been lacking in other magazines! I've previewed a few things below that I really liked - the diorama, the owls, the steampunk style pumpkins - and especially painting the pumpkins to look like old vintage Halloween papier mache lanterns was clever. I love how they turned out! Also featured was a framed vintage Beistle cutout of a pumpkin with a wheat stalk in its mouth - we sell repros of this cutout and the rest of the series (8 in all - 4 shown below) at The Vintage Halloween Website Store.

 

 

 

 

 

Martha Stewart Living October 2014 Magazine

The always anticipated Martha Stewart Living October issue is now on stands and features a spooky back cover and flipped side entry of Halloween items -- usually there's a special Halloween issue on stands--not so this year. Here's some highlights from the issue--I especially like the Sleepy Hollow pumpkin carving.

 

 

 

 

Vintage Halloween eBay Spotlight - Beistle Owl Diecut

I've always found this owl diecut to be unusual! It's a Beistle piece from the late 1940s, according Mark B. Ledenbach's Vintage Halloween Collectibles guide, third edition. Sold for $289.00 at eBay.

2014 Halloween at World Market

Some neat finds at World Market - The skull treat container is cool plus the beakers. Lots of vintage postcard imagery.

The October/November 2014 issue of All Recipes features some cute Halloween ideas. Not pictured is a snake-shaped calzone. I like the mice desserts , jack o' lantern peppers, and using cauliflower (like brains) for dips.
